At the time of this review, I'm the 14th reviewer on Amazon. And quite frankly, that's hard to believe. Similar business books by other authors have over 1,000 reviews and contain fluffy content that is NOT NEARLY as CLEAR, SPECIFIC, ACTIONABLE, and RELEVANT as The Business of Getting Business.
We live in a digital age. I don't care if you are a local plumber, real estate broker, attorney, dentist, barber, store-front owner, or seller of any product or service ... you MUST understand the internet and TAKE ACTION to set yourself apart from the competition you have now (and will likely have in the future).
Joe Manausa is a digital marketing expert. He has been practicing what he preaches in his book for the past 15 years. Do a quick Google search of his name and you'll find his website and all sorts of information about him -- especially all of his company's 5-star reviews (702 reviews with a 4.9 star rating as of now ... that's UNREAL for a small real estate brokerage in a city like Tallahassee, FL). In his book, he takes you through the EXACT STEPS you need to transform your business into a hyper-profitable marketing and sales machine. And he doesn't sugar-coat how tough it will be ... it will require a ton of upfront learning, research and sweat equity. But as the old saying goes "IF YOU BUILD IT, THEY WILL COME."
Joe guides you through exactly what you'll need to do to build your own digital marketing machine. He shows you the tools you need to create a world-class website, how to write brilliant content using precise and relevant keywords (there's a formula for that btw - it's "HPITA" -- you'll see when you read the book), the importance of On-Site and Off-Site SEO (how to get DROVES of free traffic organically -- Joe gets about 21,000 unique visitors a month to manausa.com as of now, just fyi), how to set up systems of proper measurement to ensure you are putting your marketing dollars where it makes the most sense (Measure Twice, Cut Once), how to set up systems of follow up that will guide your consumers through a logical sales process while establishing YOU as the EXPERT and the AUTHORITY in whatever it is you sell.
I can't tell you how many business books I've read over the past decade, but there are very few that have provided as much value to me as this one. If you own a business (large or small, local or national) BUY THIS BOOK. While some of the content does focus on the real estate industry (specifically Joe's area of expertise), you will get SO MANY IDEAS that parallel your industry and ways that will make your business MORE RELEVANT, MORE SUSTAINABLE and MORE PROFITABLE. I wrote 5 pages of notes and brainstormed countless ideas of my own, and you will too.
If you want to be the top-player in your niche ... BUY THE BOOK. READ IT. And then TAKE MASSIVE ACTION! You'll be glad you did a year, 3 years, 10 years from now. The ROI on this $20 Amazon purchase is massive.
In this volume, Manausa provides an abundance of valuable information, insights, and counsel that almost anyone can use to achieve the aforementioned objectives. More specifically, he examines these basics of getting business:
o Local business marketing
o What digital marketing is...and isn't
o The infrastructure needed to support digital marketing
o Elements of an effective digital marketing plan
o How social media can help get business
Today, the business of getting and keeping business is more difficult than ever before. Hence the importance of digital marketing to create or increase demand for the given offering. The "good news" is that most companies get more business with digital marketing than with any of the alternatives; the "bad news" is that digital marketing has been up and sprinting for quite some time. Prospective customers are much better prepared to consider their purchase options, including not making a purchase.
In Chapter 9, "How to Take Your Company Digital," Manausa focuses on what must be done by the digital marketer. (It may be necessary at some point to retain outside assistance.) He explains HOW TO formulate a prospect list of those with whom the company intends to interact online. Also, HOW TO establish a budget, obtain funds needed, create a strategy, and (when ready) launch the given enterprise. He also shares his thoughts about CRM, email marketing applications, and the company website itself,
In some respects, digital marketing today is conducted within an "attention economy." Given that, I presume to share a insight I had years ago when helping several clients (large and small) to increase their "attention share" among prospective customers.
There are three basic marketing questions to answer. The first two are easy: "Who are you?" and "What do you do?" (i.e. what you offer, the problems you solve, etc.) The answer to the third question determines success or failure: "Why should I care?" Today, most people have an attention of a Strobe Light blink. Have you ever attempted to capture the attention of a four year old?
Here in a single volume is about all a digital marketer needs to know about how to create or increase demand online. Yes, Joe Manausa wrote this book primarily for small businesses but most of the material (with only minor modifications) could be of great value to almost any other organization, whatever its size and nature may be.
Well-done!
Perhaps now more than ever this is the time to read "The Business of Getting Business". Use it to develop a plan implementing the author's recommendations and give your business the opportunity to be truly successful. An easy read, I highly recommend this book for anyone thinking of starting a business, or running one.”
